This week Singabites is teaming up with our friends at Drinks and co and Winesave Asia. Everyday we’ll be matching a good bottle of wine with one of Singapore’s favourite local dishes. If you’d like to join in you can click on the links to buy the wine. And we’ll give you some recommendations for where to get the food. We hope you enjoy it.

A freshly made curry puff

We’re starting the week with a small dish that we all know and love. The curry puff. Everybody loves a curry puff. Chicken and potato, sardine and even durian puffs have the nation salivating. It is believed that curry puffs came to Singapore with the British. They had been eating their pasties for years and the Indians just made them better. It seems that fewer places are now making their own fresh puffs daily. One place that is very popular on our food tours is Soon Soon Huat in Katong. Run by friendly couple Dennis and Mui Lan, this shop is always busy with the local crowd. They make their puffs on site from a recipe passed down from Mui Lan’s grandmother. They are open for takeaway during lockdown at 220 East Coast road in Katong.

Drinks and Co Wine recommendation.

A bottle of Manyara Chardonnay from Adelaide Hills Australia.

We’re pairing the curry puff with a Manyara Adelaide Hills Chardonnay. This Chardonnay displays a nose of spice and white peach. The palate has a nutty complexity. There’s some lingering citrus and marmalade characters and fine length. Perfect to partner with the light spices of your curry puff. Click here to purchase.
