Virtual learning journeys are a fantastic way for Singapore’s students to experience the culture, history, and way of life of our nation without leaving the classroom. Due to covid restrictions we can not run learning journeys like we normally do. Instead, we have created virtual learning journeys where the students can explore regions of Singapore right from their classrooms.Students in a classroom enjoying a virtual learning journey

What is a virtual learning journey?

Singabites learning journeys are focused on encouraging the students to step out of their normal cultural comfort zones. We encourage each class to explore an area that they may not be familiar with. Our aim is for them to see different cultures, different ways of living and different beliefs and customs. The melting pot that is Singapore only gets stronger and stronger the more we understand and appreciate each other.

Due to covid restrictions we can not lead our normal tours through our heritage areas. As a result we have created 30 minute presentations that include videos of the area, interviews with local leaders, business owners and cultural ambassadors. Each presentation comes with a work book that the students will follow during the lesson. There are questions and tasks set for each age group.

For each of our lessons a trained facilitator will enter the classroom and present the lesson. There will be ample time for Q and A and the students will be encouraged to interact.
Each virtual learning journey also comes with a “bite” for the students to enjoy. Typically this will be a small taster dish that is synonymous with that area. For example we might have Nonya dumplings when talking about the Pernakana community in Joo Chiat.
